It's getting gradually colder as we creep north and our overnight journey invloves more blankets and shivers than our Texas - acclimatising has become used to. 9 hours and 5 miles from the prospect of a much needed bath and bed, our van brakes, steering and electrics desert us and we come to an abrupt stop on the side of the motorway. A good Samaritan with a tow truck pulls us to hard shoulder safety and there we sit it out until our rescue arrives.

Pass the Pentagon, the tidal basin, the Lincoln Memorial and the cherry blossom is in full bloom. Always glad to be back in DC and always flooded by memories. The Black Cat was an old haunt of mine when I lived in the city, so feels great to be here and a sold out show to boot. Celebrate with perhaps the worst Bloody Mary known to man, straight from hell's compost heap. Have a very giddy pre show warm up, listening to the Birdie Song with a bottle of Maker's Mark, Rhydian teaching us some of his old gymnastic moves. It's an accident waiting to happen. Love the show, meet some great people.

We left Atlanta with bellies full of Terrepine beer and several piss stops later arrived in Durham, North Carolina. Breakfast was had in Cracker Barrel ; Rhydian salivating at the enormous sweety collection. Took me back to my first impressions of Rhyds in primary school, he was always getting caught in the corner shop, pocketing sherbert. Admire the rocking chairs, mind wanders to scenes of dotage, one day I'll have a porch, a rocking chair and a plate of moon pie.
